The Mobi-mats assist with on-beach accessibility for wheelchairs and those with limited mobility. The Beach Access Locations listed below provide handicap-reserved parking and rollout Mobi-mats. Once all Mobi-mats have been repaired and approved for installation, a notice will be provided on this page, as well as the News & Notices page of the Town Website. The mats are currently being repaired, or are awaiting further instructions from CAMA on their placement. These specially constructed chairs feature corrosion-resistant construction, and large, inflated tires specifically designed to tread on the top of the sand. Through grant funding and community donation, the Recreation Department is able to offer the use of beach wheelchairs to residents and visitors. Town staff work hard to maintain these accesses however, due to tides and erosion, please check the suitability of each access point first. There are numerous handicap accessible beach accesses, with a wide array of amenities, ranging from reserved parking, to ramp and gazebo structures, to Mobi-mats that provide direct beach access for wheelchairs. The Town of Oak Island strives to offer "open door" access to the our greatest natural resources, with development that meet the needs of residents and visitors alike.
